Checking the outside of the Hardy 25 and finding a few things that were not as they should be, Also starting to compound the hull so we can see the extent of the hull repairs needed.

Now that the rope fender as been removed it as highlighted a need to replace the starboard rope fender rail as it is now correct and is made to of short pieces.

It also does not fit the hull correctly and is not made of the correct wood as well.

Getting the serial number off the leg unit to get the spare parts needed to sort out the leg problems and get a new anode for the leg unit.

The port side been given a first compounding and it shows the difference between the two sides

Once the hull is compounded then will be able to get on with the gelcoat repairs on the hull.

The starboard fore & side decks of the speedboat long boarded flat ready to be re-veneered and a dinghy in need of a bit of TLC before being put up for sale.

The speedboat's decks now long boarded flat ready for re-veneering with a fresh layer of mahogany veneer.

The longboarding showed up the high spots on the original deck by going through the surface veneer of the original deck in places.

Some of the areas were larger than others as in this photo.

The long side decks were fairly flat and just the edge needing a bit of light sanding to return the sharp  edge to the edge of the deck.

There may be a few small areas that need a bit of final filling and sanding, however, the man part of the decks are now ready.

The boat under the light blue cover is in need of a bit of TLC and then will be put up for sale as the owner can no longer sail the boat and wishes it to go to a good home and be used once more.

J-Star Marine Services next project to restore this tired Hardy 25 cruiser.

One of the first jobs is to remove this old tired rope fender and replace with a new rope when the restoration is almost completed with a fender the correct length.

After the rope fender is removed, then do the necessary gelcoat repairs and compound and polish the hull back to as near to the way it was when it left the Hardy yard.

Most of the gelcoat repairs are on the bow and down the starboard side where the boat as been manoeuvred  in the past.

The port side as a few marks

The starboard side as a lot more

The transom is a bit more difficult to compound because of the amount of fittings to work round.

Another of the major jobs is to remove and replace all the window rubbers and the Perspex windows in the cabin

Then the wheelhouse windows rubbers need to renewed as well as these are perished as well.

Starting the long job of filling and long boarding the old decks to make them flat enough to re-veneer the decks

The first job was to fill the low areas of the deck with epoxy and low-density filler to repair the damaged area of the original veneer.

There are a fair number of areas around the decks and the edges.

Starting to long board the sloping deck on the front of the boat.

Yjen tackle the large area of the flat foredeck

The start to long board the side decks

Speed boat restoration of the decks, first get girt of the old varnish and then sand back the surface so it can be re-veneered.

The speed boat is back in the workshop, this time to have the deck re-veneered with new mahogany veneer

Getting girt of the old varnish with a heat gun on the old varnish which is  still on the side decks

Half the port side deck varnish removed

The whole of the port side old varnish removed and now the time for the sander to get girt of the last of the varnish on the surface of the deck

The port side sanded back to the bare wood, just a bit of filling to fair up the deck areas where bits of veneer is missing before relaying a fresh veneer over the top of the old deck.
