The refit on April Star as begun and there is a lot to do before she can go back in the water and be sailed back, to her new mooring in Walton on the Naze

 Getting to grips with the cockpit seats by starting to get rid of the grown in dirt of over 5 years being in the same spot. Pressure washer and a lot of elbow grease. 

It is looking a lot better however, some way to go to get it back to a good condition.

One of the main jobs is to get thew hull and superstructure clean again which is needing a good compounding to get a start on this job

A lot of elbow grease and strong hands with the compounding machine and a lot of patience. 

The galley unit back at the workshop in need of reworking to get it up to safe use again.

Sorting out the rudder pivot pin and the lines to control the raising and lowering of the blade when the boat is on its half tide mooring.

The looker lids all need working on and some need renewing as some are broken and others are missing.

A very old electrical dashboard which will be renewed and also other equipment will be refitted to make the boat and its navigation easier on any passage it makes in the future.

The interior is in need of a very good cleaning and plenty of elbow grease and scrubbing brushes and boat clearer and patience to get it clean again.

These 2 photos shows that with a bit of clearer and patience it can be done.

Here is one of the crew compounding the hull and long way to go, however, she is getting there.

The work is continuing of the Chance Restoration teams Jaguar 22 as we get it ready for the week after the late Spring bank holiday weekend

One of the J-Star Marine Services staff lending a hand by compounding the hull while Simon is cleaning the inside the cabin.

The fibreglass interior lining is starting to come cleaner as it is washed down with boat cleaner and a sponge and scrubbing brush to get rid of the more difficult to remove dirt. The rust marks will come out with a bit of compound and a cloth.

Much of the dirt is just on the surface and will be able to come clean and stay clean once the boat is aired out and ventilation is resorted.

More elbow grease needed, however, we are getting there. 

One of the main jobs in the cabin is to sort out any deck leaks and remove the windows and get them resealed and replace all the locker lids. and then get new cushions and paint out the lockers. 

Other jobs that need doing will be all the halyards other lines around the boat which have been left on the mast which by now will be shot, and service the winches and service the engine. We have to make a new outboard motor pad for the outboard bracket as this is missing. The list for getting the boat ready for the water is while long, however, we will get through it and then be able to sail her back to her new mooring in the Walton Backwater.

 

The J-Star Marine Services team are breathing new life back into the tired Jaguar 22 after it has been neglected for 5 years

The first job was to remove all the old loose equipment off the boat and in the storage areas around the sailing club and get a better picture of the task ahead.

The hull and deck are in reasonable condition apart from the dirt that as collected on the boat over the past 5 years a good pressure washing down and compounding and polishing will put right. 

The cockpit was in a poor way as it had taken the worse of the dirt off the trees directly behind the boat however this will come off with a good scrubbing and a bit of elbow grease. 

The upper deck will need a good scrubbing and pressure washing down and the handrails as good sanding and teak oiling and they will come back as well 

The dirt is coming off but it is taking time, however, we are getting there piece at a time.

The cockpit is now looking a lot better just a bit more scrubbing and a bit of compound and polish and we should be getting there. 

Next job to clean up the interior and replace the missing or broken locker lids and new mahogany trims to make and new wiring to run and new battery and shore power to install. Lots of scrubbing ahead and general refitting to be done.

 

Two more tired old dinghies in need of a new lease of life being given te J-Star Marine services restoration treatment

This old IP 10 has come in for a full make over starting with a good clean down and inspection of the hull before making a list of the works needed to be done.

Now that the inside has been cleaned out of any loose dirt it is time to turn her over and clean off the outside before giving the hull and good sanding down in preparation to have a couple of coats of epoxy hi-build primer applied to the hull to make it water tight and after any starglazing have been repaired 

So let the fun begin on this IP10 

Another dinghy brought in was a 14 foot bass boat which will need much the same treatment as the IP10 and seats and a forward deck and shelter fitting to the forward end.

 

Dinghies close to being finished now up for sale

This wayfarer is now coming towards its refit and will be up for sale shortly. It will be rigged over the next week to ensure it is ready to go, So if you are in the market for a well refitted Wayfarer this is a good allround dinghy. Complete with road trailer and combi launching tollery.

This restored dinghy has had a lot of work done has had a ton of work done to it, it just about finished and it to will be up for sale so if you are in the market for a good 8 ft tender dinghy which can take an outboard and can be row as well this is priced competitively. 

This is a classic 1960's windboats Pearly Miss speedboat which is under going a complete restoration and one completed will be coming on the market as well.
