The Stately Speed boat transom rebuild

The first part of the job was to remove as much of the rotten veneers as was needed and then start to cut back layer to regain the strength in the veneers to the original.

On the inside of the transom it was needed to cut back more veneers to regain the strength in the transom. This done by it making the original vertical veneers on the first layer of the transom lay up.  

Then we then started to lay up the diagonal layers one by one to rebuild the transom thickness once again 

Thi is made up of 6 layers of veneers placed on the diagonal, these are glued with thickened epoxy over the space of a week a layer a day. 

A layer of thickened epoxy and then each piece of veneer then screwed in position and each layer then completed

Now we are at the final layer but one which will be glued on tomorrow and then the work will start on the side of the hull to finally close up this repair and then the transom will get a final 1 mm thick veneer and the hull will be resprayed  in its original colours once more.

 

Work coming along on the latest 8 ft tender and work on the speedboat hull repairs

The gunwales and rubbing strakes now fixed in place with copper nails as standard  with our tenders.

The hull is now staible now the gunwales and rubbing strakes are fitted and the rest of the fit out can continue once the seats are moulded and cut to shape.

Now we have to make and glass in the outboard pad on the inside of the transom and the gunwale and rubbing strake across the transom.

The seats are being moulded up and when cured they will released from their moulds and cut to the finished shape and then glassed in position and they will make up the tender's buoyancy tanks.

The transom and side of the speed boat's hull repairs are underway now we have got to the end of the rotten laminates. Just got to cut back the good area to fit the laminates to the correct length to regain the strength in the hull. 

The same work will be needed to be done on the side of the hull to regain the strength once again.

 

Got a bit of work in to keep going over the next couple of weeks

Repairs to the Stately speedboat, the aft engine bay buoyancy tank which was rotten and was replaced with a new marine plywood panel and then fibreglassed over to seal the edges and so it will maintain its integrity.   

THe restoration pram dinghy project. the inside as now been repaired with CSM over the holes after the areas were grown back and now the outside as been filled with thickened epoxy before it is all sanded back again to get a smooth surface. and then make and glass on a new bilge keel to replace the missing bilge keel.

A set of oak gunwales/rubbing strakes for the 8ft Little Mai Tender which is getting its fairing epoxy primer.

A wayfarer dinghy just come in for a bit of TLC and a hull repair after a boat movement by the owner when wrong.

Removing Transom shield of the outdrive and sand back transom to inspect the veneer of the transom.

First part of this job was to remove the transom shield to get the area clear to be able to sand back the transom.

It had to come out any way because there is a broken stud in one of the fixing holes to bolt the engine cradle to the transom shield it was a job that will help remove the broken stud while it is out of the boat.

It is out now and gives us move room to work in this small area.

Just got to remove the wooden wedge off the transom so we could sand back the transom.

Finally all the paint removed and now to inspectthe surface veneers to see if any need replacing.
