 We offer a wide range of Marine and other assorted industries sector services.

Our services include new built dinghy's (GRP or wood).  Simple wooden or gelcoat repair or touch up your paint work on your yacht or motorboat, to a refit or a full restoration.  Did you know  our repair skills are transferable to  Caravans, Motorhomes or classic Alvis cars and Lotus cars to name just a few of the different things we have been asked to work on over the years  . 

Back from a short break and back to work and getting these boats finished off and out and up for sale.

Having had a short break from a busy summer it is now time to get back to work and move these boats out of the workshop and back on to the market and get them sold to their new owners. 

The first boat is a restoration job to get this pram dinghy cleared up and repairs done and renew the seats and the missing bilge keel and give it a fresh paint job and renew the gunwales and seats. 

Then continue to polish the hull and replace the rotten marine plywood  transom panels and renew the deck covering with a original deck covering it had when it was originally build in the 1960's and refit the marine plywood cushioned seats and new windscreen and steering wheel.

Finish varnishing the Enterprise dinghy and rerig the mast and check out the sails. 

When this is all done they will all be put up for sale 

 

The latest dinghy restoration project to come to the J-Star Marine Services yard to get our special treatment to bring it back to life.

Another dinghy came to the yard today for the first stages of its restoration back to a working dinghy.

The first job was to take photos and measurement of the parts that needed to be recorded for new parts to be made and refitted once the repairs are done to the hull.

The hull with all but the upper part of the transom removed so we can assess the work needed to be doneto the hull before we remove the old paint and rotten wood and any holes in the hull.

There are a few small holes in the bottom where somebody was going to use it as a garden planter and then changed their mind.  So we will need to be do some small gelcoat and matting repairs to make it watertight again and then give it a good clean and repaint the inside later in the restoration.

The outside of the hull is going to need a good sanding back and the repainting the hull back to a shiny gloss finish.

Half the bottom sanded off to get back to the base gelcoat and make any repairs needed before repainting the hull and turning the hull over and refitting the inside with new seats and new gunwales and inwales.

In the yard starting to strip down all the old fittings off the deck and from inside the 

boat.

Starting to polish off the oxidation of the hull as it as not been looked after for a number of years before coming to J-Star Marine Services for a full restoration of the boat inside and outside.

In the workshop onits trailer while we continue to remove the last of the fittings before turn the boat over to polish the lwer part of the hull which can not be done while it is on its trailer.

The fore deck cleaned off of all the old fittings and the glue from the deck covering that was removed  as it is going tobe replaced with the same type of covering which it wa build with in the 1960's

The dashboard now with all the old fittings removed and now needs cleaning down redy to be recovered in a same material it had before.

The inside needs a good cleaning down and then painting out with a hard wearing coating.

Now is the time to carry out measurements of what is needed for seat bsesand back so that these can be made up and covered ready to be fitted towards the end of the restoration project.

 

Boat movement Monday and a fresh start to the busy week ahead.

The restoration is now out of the workshop for a few days while we get to work on the Aluminum speedboat and continue to clean and polish the hull back to its original polished condition. 

In the meantime being outside will harden off the varnish so it can be cut back and given its final finish coat. 

It is a complete change from when it came into the yard a year ago. when it had  been a seaside planter.

Now all that is left to do is fit the rowlock blocks to the inwales and put a bow ring in the stem and a second ring on the breasthook.

Then it will be put up for sale for a new owner to enjoy rowing or motoring around the local area or beyond.

In the workshop now is the aluminum speed boat which will now be the focus to get the hull polished back to its original condition and get the other works done on it to get it ready for a new owner in the spring. 

So as two boats are on their way out of the yard to new homes there are more boats lined up to come through the workshop over the winter.
