Rudder repairs underway

Now that the old epoxy as been sanded off blade it as exposed the old glassfibre matting that was glassed over the edge of the udder when it was build, which as now dis connected itself from the two  halves of the rudder blade,

Inspecting the area it is can see why, the area was not sanded down to give the matting a key to grip on to when glass fibreing over the joint to seal the joint

Thenewkeel shoe fitting bearing now fitted in the heel fitting and ready to go back on the boat.

The last of the dirty jobs done on the outside of the boat

Never a every clean job, however, once its done, its done for a year

Blue is always better than a green bottom on a boat

Also got done today which fitting the fish finder sonar unit on the Transom and running the cable through the boat to the upper console,. then fitting the new VHF ariel so that the owner will be able to talk to the marina and the local coastguard and get other information while out cruising.

The work on Monday will be to connect up the  rest of the water system and get the water discharge pump fitted in the shower tray andsort out the bulkheads in the shower compartment. Then the list of jobs will start to get smaller.

Making a start on putting the toilet compartment back together again

The builder plate with the boat number on it, this one is 1216 which makes her an early Hardy 25 with a deep keel used for inland and coastal short runs unlike her sister ships with a little short keel and large stern drives.

One of the custom locker / seats which had to be made to fit the area left after the boat had a change of fuel tank sometime in the past. The same is true of the Helmsman seat / locker which itself a custom made seat /locker to fit as the the area was not the same as a  standard Hardy 25 cockpit layout

The home for the hotwater heater to run the shower and the sinks in the toilet compartment and the galley

The engine number to be able to get the bits for the engine conversion to run the hot water heater while underway or away from shore power.

The patch work repairs are starting to appear

The patch work starting to appear under the deck sheathing

Some parts are glued down and screwed and other areas are nailed down and glued and others are just nail gunned down

Most of it soon far is reasonably sound

Other parts nor so much  with extensive rot in the gunwale and deck beam and the plank

The yard's latest Finesse 24 deck renewal, the opening stages

The same problem as come to light, the edge are rotten from lack of sealant on deck furniture and the water as found itself getting under the sheathing

The aft deck is a different plywood to the rest of the plywood on the and as been renewed at some timein the past which the rest of the deck as not been as the aft deck is screwed down

I clean cut between the two deck plywood on a deck beam, a good idea if the gap between the side of hull and the gunwale was filled in to keep the joint watertight.

The side deck  is nailed down and no sealant  in evidence.
