The first of many coats of varnish of the Finesse 24 cabin sides and coamings

Amazing what one coat of varnish can do to cabin sides and looking a lot better now it as a thinned coat of varnish all over the cabin sides and cockpit coamings

The yacht's cabin sides are all masked up and ready to be varnished

The owner after he had finished sanding the whole of the cabin sides and the cockpit coamings cleaned the decks down and the masked up the areas which are going to be epoxied when the all the decks sheathed.

A long job, but that is necessary to keep the surface for the epoxy to adhere to clear of any varnish

Just one final wipe down with a tack rag to get rid of any bits of dust and then on with the thinned coats of varnish which be about four coats of varnish

Then a good sanding down to flatten  back the surface before getting on with the less thinned down coats of varnish until you have a good build up of coats of varnish

Making a start on rebuilding the battery locker and make it back to its original size.

Cleaning the battery locker area to check out the positions of all the parts going into this locker and what is not going back in after it is rebuild.

The pedestal is now removed to make room for the mock up of the  helmsman seat to be made and fitted in position to make sure it is in the correct position when the battery locker is remade

The cleating made and fitted round the original position of the battery locker front bulkhead and the locker is more than large enough to hold the batteries and battery charger in position.

The old front cut down to fit the original position of the battery locker

The same as been done to the top and these can be used as patterns for the new teak faced marine plywood replacements

Once this locker is made up, the mock-up of the helmsman seat locker can be made and set up in position to sort out where the locker as to be, how far back or forward it needs to come in its final position..

Trying to sort out the pipework on the engine to see what is needed and what is an add on over the years

Now it is time to turn our attention to the engine to sort out the pipework on the engine and see what is going on with all the next lengths of pipe going round the engine

The header tank that is not the original and the smaller 5 litre tank on the left hand side of the photo with a pipe placed in the top of it .

A jigsaw puzzle to sort out without a plan to work too, good fun had by alol.

The last time this engine was serviced the wrong model type of oil filter was used, now its time to get the job done correctly with all the correct parts for the engine and get the engine to work at its full power.

The Hardy 25 cockpit locker tops are now re-made and are ready to fit again

The new marine plywood locker lids have now been made and fitted

both port and starboard locker lids have been made and cut so that there will be a fixed part closest to the hull side and the part closest to the engine box will be a hinged part to gain access to these locker to store loose items in and also the diesel heater in the port side locker and the battery charger in the starboard locker behind build in lockers of their own

New hardwood rails have been made and fixed with bolts to the grp framework of the cockpit moulding and the other rails have been glued and screwed to the marine plywood fixed part of the cockpit locker lids

Before any of the lids can be fixed in position the cockpit carpet linings will have to be renewed with new carpet linings to match the new linings going in the cabin and the rest of the boat
