Hardy 25 toilet de-construction as begun

In order to make it look and work as the new owner wishes to use the toilet compartment, there has to be a bit of de-construction first.

Removing all the old tiles and other linings in the toilet compartment first to get back to the base plywood and start to clean up the base plywood in order to make the new toilet compartment work as the new owner wishes to use this area.

The old tile were fixed on the bulkheads with no more nails and they did fix to the bulkheads firly well.

Getting back to the base plywood and fibreglass, it is heavy going in some places as the tiles and cork tiles have fixed well to the base plywood.

Getting back to the cabin side finally after a fair bit of work with a wide bladed chisel. However, we are getting there. 

 

Clearing up the headlining panels for the cockpit so that the new headlinings look smooth and flat.

In order to achieve a good smooth finish to the headlining material, you have to remove all the old glue from the panels so that you have a smooth finish to glue too.

The old glue is still very tacky and is picking up all the dust and small bits in the workshop so it is a matter of dissolving the old glue and getting rid of any contamination on the surface of the panels where the new material has to be glued to when they are recovered.   

The first of the cockpit headlining panels with the glue removed and just needs to dry off the solvent we used to remove the glue and then they will be ready to recover the panels when the cabin headlining panel have had the same treatment. 

 

Starting to fit the seacocks to the Morgan Giles 30 toilet compartment

Having had the owner decide where he wish to locate the seacocks , it was a matter of cutting through the inner layer of fibreglass and the foam insulation to expose the outer hull. 

Both areas cut out and ready to fit the skin fittings once the packing pads are epoxied into position

The two seacocks in position, just a matter of mixing up soe epoxy with low density filler powder and setting the seacocks in their final position.

Now with the holes cut out to fit the packing pads in position with the thickened epoxy.

 

Restoring the old weathered cockpit table off the Hardy 25 and removing the old varnish and dark stain off the steering wiring box.

The old weathered teak cockpit getting a good sanding back to get rid of the old varnished and faded wood.

Giving the same treatment to the underside of the same table.

After a bit of light sanding got the original colour of the teak veneer coming through and will need a few coats of varnish to look like new again.

Making a start on the steering cable and wiring box and giving it the same treatment as the table.
