The Morgan Giles 30 gets a new heart it just needs connecting to the rest of the boat.

After a long time in the making it was now the time to fit the new engine into the Morgan Giles 30. With the aid of the local boatyard and their crane and its driver we were able to put the new engine in the boat.

The owner of the boat had made sure that there was going to be a good amount of room round the engine to work on all the engine services items when at sea and make sure that engine bay was fit for purpose.

It is now up to us to get all the parts connected up so that when it comes time to launch her it will be a turn key moment. 

After a bit of careful measuring we were able to ensure that the forward panel will fit as it was originally intended to be fitted. This was because the original new engine was going to be one size down from this final engine. In the end it fitted well into position.

 

Good day on Aurora with a few jobs ticked off the list.

 The first job was to sand the patches on the bottom that need to be epoxy coated to have the same level of protection as the rest of the hull. The only problem is that we will have to get the yard to move a couple of legs a little so that we can finish sanding the bottom where the stands are on the hull.

We also got the inner stern tube gland base fitting fitted and so the rest of the stern tube can be finished off. Then we can fit the exhaust skin fitting and then the sawn neck exhaust fitting and the waterlock and run the exhaust pipe from the engine bay to the new exhaust transom fitting. 

We have also got the pushpit fitted which just leaves the pulpit to be fitted and the guard wires to be refitted. Then the boat will be save to work on the decks. So a few jobs ticked off with more to come.

Once we got into the bulkhead it just fell to pieces in our hands.

 

It was the same the whole way across above the shelf from side to side

Once the shelf was removed it was the same all the way down the middle of the bulkhead  until you got to the bottom. 

The bulkhead now removed and now the grinding out can begin to get rid of all the old bonding and get ready to make and fit a new chain locker bulkhead

The only part of the front part was the shelf which was bonded to the bulkhead.The only thing that saved this, was the fact it did not come into contact with the bulkhead.

 

Now that the rain as stopped we can get on with of the outside jobs that have not been able to get on with

Now that the rain as stopped or at least that's what the forecast says. We may well be area to get on with some of the other jobs we have not been able to do for one reason or another.

The first of these jobs is to refit the pulpit and pushpit on the Morgan Giles 30 and then be able to fit the guard wire all the way round the boat and be able to work on deck safely.

The original holes are bit misaligned and will have to be  repositioned a little and the old holes filled.

Back in the engine bay the pipe for the inlet will have to be cut shorter and be double hose clipped and then the area round the stern tube will have to be cut back a small amount to let the new inside fitting to go back to the correct position.

We will have to make a small platform to fit the water lock for the engine exhaust system to sit on and the run th new exhaust pipe from there to the lazarette locker and the swam neck fitting in the locker before it goes out through the transom exhaust fitting.

Then we can get on with sanding the bottom patch for the gelshield coating to go on to finish off the epoxy protection on the underside of the hull.

 

Working on the Fairline Carberra we have in the boatyard at present for a refit and to have the engine put back in the engine after a major rebuild of the engines.

Having cleaned off all the old cabin linings which were in a poor condition it was time to clean the whole area ready to put back the headlining panels and reline the walls of the under cockpit sleeping cabin.

This was the first half of the floor and sides getting a good cleaning.

The two side panels refitted after having to cut holes in the side linings to get at the old 240-volt wiring which ws household grade wire and not marine grade which it is replaced with now and the 240-volt wiring is up to spec.

A few hours work and it is looking a whole lot better and just have to refit the engine shift cables back and the hole of this area can be refitted and it can look like it did before apart from being relinined with carpet side linings.

The whole of the area cleaned and ready to go.

Time to have fun relining the cabin and lining out the area and putting it back to together.
